Now that my work schedule is more like it’s supposed to be (part-time as opposed to all-the-time) I’ve laid out my Line-For-Scene cards for Moonlit Hunt and am dismayed by what I see.

It would appear that instead of coming up with events that move the story forward, I have come up with, as usual, a lot of talking, thinking and looking aghast at each other. I considered this for awhile, and I think the problem is that I was using the Character tool in Create-A-Plot Clinic to create my scenes (which is what the reader is instructed to do). Unfortunately, when it comes to character, I immediately focus on the internal and the emotional, and action goes out the window. What I’ve decided to do from now on is, while I’m building the outline at least, to use the other tools for plot creation, things like Maps and Culture, so my historical fantasy doesn’t turn into a Jane Austen novel (nothing wrong with those, of course, as I’m something of a Janeite, but it’s not what I want to write). The character stuff will emerge on its own, I think; I probably couldn’t stop it if I wanted to.
