Writing For Love and Money, Honey

I wrote for an hour this morning; just leapt out of bed with an idea rattling around in my head, an idea for a vignette that turned into a short story. I could have gone on, but I felt myself straining against the bounds of my creativity, stretching them too far. I decided to stop at an hour and go back to it later. Tonight, I’m scribbling out a freewrite, a quick character study. I can feel the writing love coming back, and it’s wonderful!

I must not over-reach. I must keep the promises I make myself and not work myself to death. I’ve learned my lesson well.

Hoshichan and I are brewing up trouble—er, rather, a business idea. We’re going to continue brainstorming tonight over tea. Funny how you can get such brilliant ideas when you’re penniless.

Wordpress says OMNOMNOM!

Lately Wordpress has been randomly eating posts. In order to combat this, Johan reinstalled it (as I am on dialup which is even slower than usual today for some reason). Hopefully that will do the trick; if not, I guess I’ll be searching through WP’s haphazard mass of user-contributed documentation for answers.

If anything seems amiss, all this is probably why. The blogrolls (including the Mythopoeic Award Challenge blogroll) need to be recontstructed, and doubtless something else I haven’t noticed yet is fubar. My apologies; I hope to get everything straightened out shortly.

Foxy Writer - This weblog’s new home.

Everything has been moved over to the new location. Everything, that is, except for posts with curly quotes, which I have misplaced the ends of. I’ll be fixing those posts and tinkering with the layout for a few days yet. There are still some things to add to the sidebars as well, but I wanted to go ahead and get the site back online.

Just a reminder: If you are subscribed to this blog, you do NOT need to change your subscription information in your newsreader (that goes for LJ subscribers as well.) I’ll be handling all that through Feedburner.

All links should be changed to http://foxywriter.com/

Please excuse the mess! I hope to have it cleared up within a week or so.

Foxy Writer - That’s me I guess!

Something of an announcement.

Because of recent financial goings-on, I’m going to take blogging more seriously from now on. That means some changes around here, none of them really major, but a few that will be definite improvements in my book.

But first, this blog will soon be moving! Foxy Writer will be it’s new home!

Foxy Writer Branding

(Yeah, I know it sounds a bit conceited, but I love foxes! And it amuses me!)

So. Things that will change.

  1. The URL of course. If you subscribe to the newsfeed, however, there is no need to update the RSS info. I use Feedburner so the feed URL will stay the same.
  2. There will likely be more ads. Really I’ll just be switching to TextLinkAds (if they approve me), getting rid of Google AdSense, and affiliating with Holly Lisle’s shop. There may be more in time, but they should all stay non-intrusive.
  3. More posts! I’ll try to post daily, if not more, for your reading pleasure.
  4. More reviews. I expect to read more fiction from now on, and I’ll review the books I read here.
  5. More Fantasy and SF news. Emphasis on the Fantasy. I’m especially hoping to announce new releases.
  6. Reading challenges and the like. Yes, I have a challenge in the works!

Those are the main upcoming changes I can think of right now. Really, it won’t be a whole lot different except for location and a slight shift in emphasis to reading and books for the time being (though I’ll continue to post on writing stuff, of course.)

If any of you have any problems with the ads and so forth, all I can say is, I’m sorry, but I’m really poor. For what it’s worth, I’ll never give a positive review to anything here that I wouldn’t recommend to a friend. :)

What’s Happening!

You may have noticed NaNoWriMo 2006 was a wash for me. Unfortunately, the insanity of my personal life has drained my will to write, so I’m concentrating on reading for the time being. Expect to see more book reviews and thoughts on what I’m reading in the future, with a random smattering of posts on the worldbuilding/planning process.

Scorpion and The Steward have merged into the same novel (don’t ask me how that’s gonna work; I haven’t quite figured it out yet. I just know it sorta clicked like a baseball card in bicycle spokes, so there ya go.) The Trouvere is still simmering on the backburner, and I’m thinking about throwing a little more magic and fairy-dust into the mixture when I finally get back to it.

Okay, that was a bit too cute even for me.

Widgety

You may have noticed I added some widgety things to the sidebars. I set up feedburner for this blog and added the little “readers” widget (hopefully that’ll increment before too long! ;) ), and a couple of days ago I added a LibraryThing widget, showing some random books from my collection (which still has a ton of stuff to be added). (I also set up an account at ma.gnolia but that’s totally a side-issue.)

Thanks to Hoshichan, I have become obsessed with nifty little gadgets like these. Hopefully, I’ll actually get some writing done again soon! ;)

Sparkly New Layout

. . . and I guess you could say the whole focus of the site has changed. I know, I know. I’ve been doing this a lot lately: shifting some sites around, removing others, cutting back. Trust me, it’s not just my sites; my whole life is going through the same process.

So what we have here is a writing and literary blog. I’ll talk about the stuff I’m writing, reading offline and on, maybe a bit about film, music and TV too. I won’t be posting about my dog, my tiki collection, or Dean Martin. That sort of thing goes in the Livejournal now. And speaking of Livejournal, Herself-the-Elf.net now has an LJ syndicated feed you can add to your friends list.

You can see I’ve already made some posts; I just couldn’t help myself. The writing has been going swimmingly lately, so I went ahead and started blogging on it, along with some other random stuff. You can read these while I work on adding more bells and whistles over the next few days.
